Introduction
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI Act) gives the public the right to request any recorded information held by a public authority, including GP Practices. The purpose is to promote greater openness and accountability.
Purpose
Brixton Hill Group Practice is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in its operations. This policy outlines the procedures for handling requests made under the FOIA within our practice.
Responsibilities
- Practice Manager/FOI Officer: Responsible for overseeing the implementation of this policy and ensuring compliance with the FOIA
- Staff Members: Responsible for forwarding any FOI requests received to the FOI Officer promptly
Procedures for Handling FOI Requests
- All requests made under the FOIA should be directed to the Operations Manager/FOI Officer, Louisa Nelson
- The FOI Officer will acknowledge the request in writing within 5 working days
- The requested information will be provided within 20 working days unless an exemption applies. If an exemption applies, the FOI Officer will inform the requester accordingly
Charges
Reasonable fees may apply for providing information in accordance with the FOIA. Any charges will be communicated to the requester in advance.
Records Management
All records pertaining to FOI requests will be maintained securely and in accordance with data protection laws and NHS guidelines.
Review and Monitoring
This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with legislative requirements.
Training
Staff members involved in handling FOI requests will receive appropriate training to ensure they understand their responsibilities under this policy and the FOIA.
